Maryland residents will soon be able to use Digital IDs, which were promised during the WWDC 2021 conference two months earlier. As a result, residents of the state will be able to use their iPhones to store their driver’s licenses in the Wallet app.
Following Arizona’s lead, Maryland has now stated that it will support driver’s licenses in the iPhone’s Wallet. According to Apple, at least 30 states are considering adopting Apple’s digital IDs.
In March, Apple stated that a number of states, including Maryland, would be supported in the near future. In the near future, Connecticut, Georgia, Iowa, Kentucky, Oklahoma, and Utah are likely to be able to use digital IDs.

According to Maryland’s government website (via MacRumors), “showing your ID at specific TSA checkpoints suddenly got easier.” To complete the process, all you have to do is place your device near an identification scanner and confirm the needed information.
The “Tap here” option for Digital IDs was seen by a Twitter user in Jackson, Mississippi, as well as in Maryland, where an Apple digital driver’s license will be available.

There are a few prerequisites: First, you must have an iPhone 8 or later with iOS 15.4. At least a Series 4 and watchOS 8.4 are required if you are an Apple Watch user. Then, adhere to the following guidelines:
- If you’re using an iPhone, open the Wallet app and hit the Plus icon.
- Using your Maryland ID, scan both the front and back of the card.
- Use the front camera to verify that you are who you say you are.
- For Maryland’s Motor Vehicle Administration, take a picture and send it in.
After MVA checks the information you gave, you will be able to use your Digital ID at certain TSA checkpoints.
