Stumptown Daze is a 1960’s romance comedy that finds Lani, a young caregiver from Rotuma, struggling to discover her purpose while in San Francisco’s North Beach. With her dementia patient Walt in tow, the pair flees his wicked daughter and lands in rural Sonoma County. Upon arriving at Murphy’s Guest Ranch in Guerneville, fate forces Lani and Walt to lodge with a germaphobe chef. Conflicting personalities ratchet up the tension as the trio encounters trouble along the banks of the Russian River. With the conniving daughter in close pursuit, tempers erupt as the old man goes AWOL in search of one last tryst. “John McCarty turns pop-culture and local antiquity into a fun and informative journey, a canny blend of lunatic farce and self-assured banter.” Russian River Times “The author offers a fascinating peek into the minds and activities…from another time period.” The Windsor Times “One of the fine accomplishments of Mr. McCarty’s novels is his rendering of the tough and unsentimental way of talking you can find in these parts (Russian River Valley).” Sonoma West Times and News “Great characters live in John McCarty’s novels. Lots of local color and fun reads.” Sonoma County Gazette
